About and Background

Based in East Yorkshire, Woods of Hornsea is a builders’ merchant that stocks over 5,000 separate products lines suitable for both trade and DIY alike.

When the staff at Woods took over the business back in 2016, they inherited an outdated solution which needed to be replaced.

The old system was inflexible and was over-complicated for their trade counter staff who needed to serve customers quickly, especially during peak times.

With so many stock lines – all with customer-specific pricing – too much time was spent manually controlling orders and deliveries, and trying to see what was in stock at any one time.

Solution

An intuitive stock control system which automatically keeps track of all goods. Purpose built tablets were deployed to manage goods in and out of the business, removing all paper processes.

Seamless integration with Sage 50 accounts software means that Woods is spending far less time on manual processes. The integration also allows trade counter staff to instantly access customer pricing, balances and credit limits, without involving finance.

The unique ‘haggle’ feature enables trade counter staff whilst seeing what profit will be made, line by line, as well as overall profit for the transaction. This allows real-time negotiation with customers, whilst ensuring they never discount too far.
